Open Up, It’s the…Noodle Police?

The noodle police, also known as the “Standard Noodle Bureau,” were a special police force established in ancient China to enforce the quality and consistency of noodles throughout the empire. The noodle police were established during the reign of the Chinese emperor Tang Taizong in the 7th century, and were tasked with ensuring that noodles were made from the proper ingredients and cooked to the correct consistency.

Noodles were an important part of the Chinese diet, and the noodle police were responsible for ensuring that they were of high quality and consistent across the empire. This involved checking the ingredients used to make the noodles, as well as the process of making and cooking them. The noodle police could arrest and punish anyone who failed to meet the standards set by the government.

The noodle police were also responsible for setting and enforcing standards for other foods, such as rice and wheat. In addition to checking the quality of the ingredients and the cooking process, they also monitored the prices of these foods to ensure that they were fair and reasonable.

The noodle police were an important part of ancient Chinese society, and their work helped to ensure that the people of the empire had access to high-quality and consistent food. Despite their importance, the noodle police were eventually abolished, and the standards they enforced are no longer in place. However, the legacy of the noodle police lives on in the rich culinary traditions of China.
