It’s not as mysterious as it sounds. There was a large fire in Brasov and the church was one of the few things that didn’t burn, but some of the exterior was blackened.

The inside is bright and airy (almost reminded me a bit of the Sagrada Familia) with wooden floors. It smells woodsy and homey.

It houses the largest collection of medieval Turkish carpets in the world. Pilgrims would bring them here as gifts. It’s a little surreal to see rugs older than your country in perfect condition!

The reformer Johannes Honterus is buried here.
