This has turned out to be one of the best experiences of the trip so far. I booked this and almost chickened out – going to some guy’s house? I’m so, so glad we went ahead with it.
Onassis was delightful. He is a fantastic cook and was so charming with Lucy, and seemed genuinely interested in the big girls’ thoughts.
He is originally from Togo, and the food was from his home country. We had a lively discussion about geography and education that went past the allotted time.
The meal was beans (with a sauce of his own creation), fried plantains, rice with peanut sauce, and the most tender chicken I’ve ever had. He also shared some bourbon when I mentioned that I had just recently discovered I like whiskey.
Oh, and Lucy demonstrated some jiujitsu moves.
